Today, the Tahitian hyper wave Teahupoo woke up for the first swell of the season, with a cast of your most frothed out protagonists all in the mix.
Eimeo Czermak managed to snag a bomb – we've said it before but keep your eyes on this 18-year-old tube hound, he's making a name for himself in all kinds of thick-watered conditions.
“It was crazy, I waited 20 minutes for this one and it was worth it. When I was in the barrel, it felt like a tow wave, it was just crazy,” he told MSW.
Another young cat who is also a regular standout nowadays when Chopes curls into unfathomable shapes is Kauli Vaast. “Today was absolutely firing,” he said. “I landed from France during the night and surfed all day at home with perfect waves. This is what I love and I'll always dream about days like this. Only with friends. Home sweet home.”
French surfer Maxime Huscenot also flew in, albeit a couple of days ago and is actually on his honeymoon. "It was so cool," he said. "I didn't plan on surfing much here so I wanted to give a quick go with no expectations. It was just so fun to be out there and get a few waves with all the chargers. Witnessing it live was insane. I was riding a 6'4" board that I borrowed from Joan Duru." Check our IG stories for how Maxime got on.
Most of what you see in the vid above was captured during the morning session, before the wind took a turn for the worst. Tomorrow though, that sorts itself out, the swell is bigger and we're all holding our breath about what's to come.
Speaking of which, we'll be dropping a full feature about these two days once it's all wrapped up – and the above is just the tip of the iceberg. Get hyped on the forecast, here.
